Hiking

Adventure 1: Eldorado trail

The Eldorado trail is just outside of Atlin BC. It is not as common as the Monarch mountain hike in Atlin, but that may make it even better!

  • Trail Difficulty: Medium
  • Duration: 3 hours
  • Camping: Plenty of nice spots in the alpine
  • Highlights: This hike has incredibly scenic views of Llewellyn glacier, Warm bay, and the town of Atlin

Finding the Trail

To get to the trail head of the Eldorado trail, drive south from Atlin along the warm bay road for about 15km. Once you get to McKee creek, cross the bridge and park in the parking lot. From the parking lot walk down the driveway immediately adjacent to the parking lot and take your first left. This road heads back towards McKee creek. Before you reach the creek you will see a sign that says Eldorado trail, this is the trailhead.

The trail quickly turns from a single track hike into an old ATV road. This road will take you higher and higher into the alpine until eventually when the trees start to thin you will be able to see the peaks of numerous mountains to your right. The ATV trail does not go all the way into the Alpine so you will have to wade through some buck brush (dwarf birch). There are many routes you can take once you’re close to the Alpine. Head up towards the peak of the first mountain, once you get to the top, there are many paths you can take as the ridge-line connect many peaks. You will just take the same exact route to get back to your car.

Camping

Once you get to the ridge-line there are many places to camp, so find a nice sheltered spot with a view!
