About Off-Road Camping
The purpose of this website is to create a library of free outdoor adventures in and around the Yukon that anyone can draw from. You may ask why we are creating a website like this as there are lots of great sites already detailing outdoor experiences in the Yukon i.e. “Yukon Hiking” or “Travel Yukon”. Although these sites are great and we highly recommend you check them out, the intention of our site is a bit different.
First Goal: Showcase “off the beaten path” adventures
After years of gathering anecdotal evidence from both visitors and locals, it has become apparent that when it comes to the outdoors, many people in the Yukon stick to the same well-trodden routes. What do I mean by this? Well places like Kluane and Tombstone park seem to receive all the love when it comes to the Yukon outdoors, leaving many areas out of the picture. Although Kluane and Tombstone are amazing parks, the Yukon has so much more to offer, and we hope that each blog we share helps you appreciate a new part of the Yukon. We also want to steer people away from just going to campgrounds, because although there are some amazing campgrounds, these places can be quite loud, busy, and limiting; which we feel can take away from some of the more magical Yukon experiences.
Third Goal: Evolve into a network of contributors
We want your ideas! We hope that with each adventure we describe, more people will in turn contribute their own ideas and adventures. We want this site to evolve into a community of likeminded individuals who can connect and contribute their own ideas to our site. If you have an outdoor activity you want to share with us, please contact us and if it fits with our goals we will be sure to share it!
How are we going to accomplish all these goals?
The first step to accomplish all of this is to start publishing adventures. We will be publishing adventure once per week to build our adventure library. We hope this primes the pump so that you can start trying some of these activities. Please give us feedback on if our descriptions are useful and if we missed anything. ' We will also be advertising more through social media platforms, please forward our posts if you see them. We hope this outreach allows us to grow as an organization so that more and more people can contribute their own ideas.
